I got into herps a little more than a year ago with an
innocent pair of leopard geckos from petco. It all seemed
innocent at the time. They were even for my daughter. Well a
little more than a year later I have about 37 snakes, 40
lizards, 3 mouse colonies and a couple tubs of bugs! I am
currently building my herp room in the backyard so i will
have a place to keep them other than scattered throughout my
house. Yes you can say I do nothing halfway.
I am mostly interested in lampropeltis. I have a bunch of
cool hondurans and nelsoni which I love above the others.
Yes milksnakes can be a little squirmy when young but they
quickly learn to trust you and it makes it all the more
worthwhile to have a group of milks that love being held.
Most of mine really seem to like me. A few seem to like to
spew on me regularly but whatever turns you on I guess.
I started with a group of 6 leos this last year and
hatched out over 35 babies which i am currently growing up
to breed next year. Then i will most likely sell all my leos
and buy more snakes.
My wife Tammy has a few Beardies that she takes care of.
When i get my room done I am going to build a nice cage
along side the outer wall of my herp room so they can be
inside or outside by passing thru a tube that runs through
the wall of the herp room. She also likes boids and
currently takes care of a Ball python, carpet python and a
large red tail boa.
My daughter also loves the herps and is half owner in my
business venture Beaver State Reptiles. I plan on selling
baby snakes and some feeder mice in the future. My web site
is www.beaverstatereptiles.com
It isn't done yet but there is a fair amount of my critters
posted there.
I am currently employed as a mechanical engineer at a
firm that designs custom radiography equipment and airport
security scanners.
